The mission of this documentary film project is:
* To educate the public about the incarceration of Americans of Japanese ancestry at the Merced Assembly Center during World War II
* To honor those Japanese Americans who were incarcerated at the Merced Assembly Center
* To illustrate that America violated Japanese Americans’ constitutional rights but righted that wrong with Redress and Presidential and Congressional apologies
Contributions
Contributions that are made to the Merced Assembly Center Memorial Documentary Film Project will help pay for the following:
*A 54-minute documentary of the making of the Memorial highlighted by interviews of former prisoners, photos of Internment Camp and clips from the Dedication and Dinner. All of this will be interwoven with footage of the various stages of the sculpture being created along with the installation of the storyboards, Wall of Names with 5 plaques and the suitcase sculpture.
*The intent is to produce the Documentary for Public Broadcast System (PBS) Television airing and to submit this documentary to various film festivals.
*The documentary will be later altered to 30 minutes to be shown in the classroom. Curriculum material and study guides may be part of the documentary distribution to the schools.
*Three 15-minute segments are also being prepared for the classroom. The first will be on the imprisonment itself. The second will be the effort put forth by the Japanese American community to tell the U.S government that a huge mistake was made. This culminated in the Civil Liberties Act of 1988 when all prisoners received a letter of apology and monetary redress from the U.S. government. The third segment will be parallels to the attack on Pearl Harbor with the terrorist attacks of 9/11 and the subsequent treatment of the Japanese Americans and Arab Americans.
A donation of $5,000 or more will highlight you, your business, or your organization on the credits of the documentary film. You will also be recognized on our Donor Plaque which will be a permanent part of the Memorial. (Gold level status is $10,000 or above, silver level is $9,999 to $5,000 and bronze level is $4,999 to $1,000.)
Donations of $100 or above will be listed on the documentary film credits.
